The differential mechanism has a planet housing with an axial bore accommodating two sun wheels meshing with planetary gears, there being cylindrical recesses in the housing for the sun wheels. Also the housing are other cylindrical recesses (17) with their axes at right angles to that of the bore (2), and enclosed in the axial direction by shoulders (18). These recesses accommodate the planetary gears (15), which run against their cylindrical surfaces. Fixed to the rear face of each gear is a thrust washer (19) bearing against the shoulder, and one or more of the gears or sun wheels can have an axial bore for the lubricating oil supply.
