摘要
The internal walls of ingot moulds with any desired cross-section are cleaned by abrasive blasting while the moulds are in a horizontal position. A compressed fluid, esp. air, is used to carry the abrasive particles to a variable speed turbine located on the mould axis and fitted with =2 diametrically-opposed outlet nozzles. The nozzles are pref. located in opposite directions, each at 45 degrees to the axis of the turbine; the turbine is located on the end of a flexible pipe and fed into one end of the mould, a suction appts. of known type being fitted on the other end of the mould for collecting the abrasive particles. A variable speed motor is pref. used to control the speed at which the turbine travels through the mould. The nozzles are pref. 6-9 mm dia. and located at 20-30 cm from the mould wall. The air is pref. at 5-8 bars, and the abrasive is slag grains, 2-3 mm dia. which can be collected from the suction appts., sieved, and re-used. Ten ingot moulds/h can be cleaned if 5/h by conventional shot blasting, bu the latter involves placing the moulds in a vertical position, so the invention saves time and labour costs. The use of slag as the abrasive is more convenient and less dangerous than shot.
