The animal warding-off device for motorways, is used for discouraging animals from crossing the motorway at night. It comprises a post supporting a mirror (17) which deflects the light from the headlights of an approaching vehicle to the sides of the motorway. The front surface (25) of the mirror (17) faces towards an approaching vehicle and is planar or curved. The rear reflective surface (26) of the mirror is profiled in the horizontal direction, eg it is concave or convex. The mirror (17) is pref. positioned such that the angle of incidence of the headlight beam is above 45 deg., eg 50 deg. The post may carry a reflector element comprising an array of sequential mirrors.
