The metal clading of the sulphur hexafluoride insulated circuit breaker contains several switching chambers for each pole. In each capsule extends a drive shaft (6) across the longitudinal direction of the capsule, which has on either side a switching chamber (4, 5) whose circuit breaker actuating linkages (7, 8) engage the drive shaft. Both ends of the drive shaft carry coupling elements, and the electric connectors (15) of the switching chambers are mounted across the longitudinal direction of the capsules. Thus the breaker pole may be formed as a module from several capsules which are interconnectable via the connectors. The switching chambers on either side of the drive shafts are electrically connected by a U-shaped closing connecting part (24).
