The clothes pattern designing aid, esp. for jackets comprises a rigid rib which stands out from a rigid back to form an upper quadrant on one-side of the rib and a lower quadrant on the other. A number of first plates can be detachably fitted to the back and rib to fill up the first quadrant whilst a number of second plates can be similarly attached to fill up the second quadrant. Each first and second plate is detachably fastened by a holder. The rib can be adjusted longitudinally along the back whilst the two sets of plates can be displaced sideways relative to the back and by a relative displacement of the parts patterns of various sizes can be easily designed by the amateur dressmaker.
