The machine is mounted on a subframe (1) which also supports several reeling units (2). Each unit is capable of receiving a reel of cable and is in a line traversed by a guided carriage (27). Supplementary friction rollers may be used to feed the cable to the cutting station. The machine is operated by first engaging the leading cable end between the friction rollers (10, 11) and in automatic contact with the recounting roller (17). The carriage (27) is then locked in position facing the appropriate set of friction rollers, and finally a clutch (12, 32) is used to set the drive roller (10) in motion.
