Vortex tube device for hot gas discharge - uses venturi action at sonic speed to give extremely rapid rotation of gas jet

A vortex tube device is used for delivering hot gas. It consists of a cylindrical tube (1) which opens into a chamber (2) to spin gas into an annular ch amber (3) to discharge tangentially. In a side corridor (2a) there is a circular, axial outlet for cold gas (2b). The outlet is connected a diffuser (6) and at the other end of the tube (1b) there is an adjustable plug (7). The plug and end of the tube are both coned and control an annular inlet (1c) for hot gas. The gas enters the chamber (2) at sonic speed and turns at over 106 RPM and also undergoes cooling.
