Liq. optical brightener compsns. consist, by wt. of 2 - 15% optical brightener, 10-90% oxyalkylate, (I), of 1 mol, prim, aliphatic amine and 2-25 mol. ethylene oxide or ethylene oxide-propylene oxide, opt. 10-50% alkylaryl-or alkyl-polyglycol ether, as nonionic dispersant, balance H2O or liq. polyalkylene glycol as diluent. The compsns. are used for brightening syntehitc textile fibres in continuous processes, e.g. short exhaust-padding- or thermosol processes. Addn. of (I) improves fine brightener distribution in soln. or dispersion. Less energy is required to diffuse brightener in fibre. Treatment time and brightener quantity needed to achieve a given degree of whiteness are reduced. A knitted polyamide-6,6 fabric was brightened by impregnation with a liq. contg. 15 g/l aq. brightened by soln. contg. brightener and coconut fatty amine + 5 C2H4O.
