The pot (1) has a shoulder (1a) on which a support plate (2) rests, dividing the interior into an upper chamber (3) and alower chamber (4). The latter is in communication with and is ventilated by a shaft through which the lower chamber (4) is filled with water. A number of inclined portions (2a) join at a central portion (2b) whose bottom is in contact with the bottom of the tub. A wick (7) lies across an opening (8) in each portion (2a) and extends into the lower chamber (4). The wick can be partially covered by a plate (9) which slides in guides (2c) to control the moisture fed to the roots of a plant (11) planted in soil on the plate (2). The outer end of the wick enters the lower chamber (4) at the joint line (10).
