Failsafe braking system for train - has safety catch on hold-off brakes to release them only on full braking

The train pneumatic brakes are fitted with spring hold off brake cylinders which are held off by the brake supply pressure. Safety catches are provided to hold the hold off brakes in a safe setting to prevent their application during fluctuations in the brake pressure. The catches are released when the brake cylinders are under pressure. The failsafe interlock is improved by only having the catches released when the full brake pressure is applied e.g. to stop the train. In this case the train is stopped with the normal brakes. Subsequent loss of brake pressure, while stationary, brings the hold off brakes into play.
