1492562 Foundations for submerged structures OFFSHORE CONCRETE BV 30 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 04410/74 Heading EIH A sinkable structure e.g. an offshore platform, or a tunnel structure comprises a foundation with one or more cavities 11 with piles 8 sealingly disposed therein, and means e.g. a pump 13, for connecting each cavity to a source of fluid pressure, e.g. the external sea water. The fluid pressure can be used to drive the pile to form a foundation or with the aid of a pressure gauge (16), Fig. 10 not shown, to assess the pressures acting on the foundation. After driving the cavities 11 can be filled with solid ballast. In Fig. 9 not shown several cavities are interconnected by fluid lines (20), (21), which assists when the sea bed is not level. The piles can be concrete, Fig. 11 not shown, or hollow steel, Fig. 10 not shown, provided with a cutting tip (29) and holes (28) to allow sea water to exit from the interior of the pile casing. If required the structure can be subsequently removed from the site. Additional solid ballast 42 can be added to the foundation.
