1509083 Cast - in - situ walls CERAMTEC GmbH 3 April 1975 [8 April 1974] 13697/75 Heading E1W [Also in Division F4] A coke oven heating wall is made up from a number of individual cast in situ wall elements 24, 42 which together define a plurality of side - by - side vertical flues 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 adjacent elements 24, 42 being held together by sets of vertically spaced apart wall ties 26-30 passing through all the vertical interfaces 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 of said adjacent elements. Some of the vertical interfaces, e.g. 32, 40 extend between the outer faces 10 and 12 of the heating wall, while others e.g. 34, 36, 38 extend between adjacent heating flues; all of the interfaces are of zig - zag or non - planar configuration. In forming the heating wall, a first wall element e.g. 24 is cast in situ with the aid of suitable shuttering and means for temporarily holding the wall ties in position, and thereafter, when the element 24 is set, the shuttering is removed and further shuttering is erected for casting in situ of the adjacent element 42.
