1512762 Polymerizing in water-in-oil emulsion KOZIMA 23 Nov 1976 [17 June 1976] 48747/76 Heading C3P A mixture of water-soluble monomer and water is added to a reaction vessel containing organic solvent and emulsifier and the mixture is heated to obtain stationary evaporation and reflux of part of the solvent to completely expel oxygen from the polymerizing system and to start the reaction, then after at least 20% of the monomer has polymerized, further monomer and water is added stepwise or continuously to maintain the polymer concentration above 20% by weight. Oil-soluble catalyst may be present but is not essential.
