1519932 Reciprocating pumps and motors J U THOMA and R GALDABINI 12 Jan 1977 [13 Jan 1976] 01044/77 Heading F1A An axial piston pump or motor comprises a rotary cylinder block 17 supported for axial movement but no tilting movements on a shaft 18 and a non-rotary valve plate 19 supported for tilting movements but no axial movement away from the cylinder block by a member 36 having a partspherical support surface, flow to and from the valve plate being via ducts 28 mounted for tilting and axial movement. The pump or motor may be of adjustable-stroke, bent-axis form, as shown and Fig. 3 (not shown), or swash-plate form, Fig. 2 (not shown). The cylinder block is biased towards the valve plate by a spring and hydraulic pressure in space 40. Alternative cylinder block biasing and valve plate support arrangements are described, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
