Benzodioxins of formula (I) in optically active or racemic forms, and their salts are new: where R1 is H, 1-5C alkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl (1-5C alkyl), 2, 3-dihydroxypropyl or (2, 2-dimethyl-1, 3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl; R2 is H or 1-5C alkyl; either, R3 and R6 are H, 1-6C alkyl, ethenyl, cyclohexyl or together complete cyclohexyl, and R5 = H or halo; or, R6 is R4-phenyl, and R4 and R5 are H, halo, CF3, cyclohexyl, 1-3C alkyl or alkoxy or p-chlorophenoxy, and R3 is 2-propenyl, ethenyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, 1-5C alkyl or H; when R3 is alkyl, =1 of R4 and R5 is other than H or halo, and when R3 is H, =1 of R4 and R5 is other than H, halo or CF3). Also claimed are intermediates for (I) and 4-chloro-2-/1-hydroxycyclohexyl/phenol. (I) are useful in treatment of chronic or acute hyperlipaemia, cardiac insufficiency of atheromatous origin or chronic angina.
