The deep freezer compartment is used for connection to the cooling surface in a compressor type refrigerator. This compartment is used especially for medicines. The deep freezer compartment is relatively small and it can be readily installed into existing refrigerators. The deep freezer compartment has a thermoelectric generator. The hot junction of the external thermoelectric element (3) contacts the cooling surface (1) and the cold junction of the innermost thermoelectric element (4) is again in contact with the inner surface (6) of the deep freeze compartment. A single thermoelectric element can be used or a number of such elements connected in cascade.
