The power consumption monitoring system is for large consumers and is intended to avoid undesirable peaks. Recording methods are included for the mean load over a predetermined period and to preset a max. tolerable threshold value for this mean. A comparator detects any instantaneous load in excess of the threshold and switches off certain non-essential loads until the total load is well below the danger threshold. The system reduces overall costs when the acceptance of more than a specified peak load carries a heavy tariff penalty.
