Furniture panel assembly system - uses rod with opposite hand threads at ends to draw together nuts attached to panels

Furniture panels (P) are assembled either edge on or at right angles to each other by means of a screwed rod. The screwed rod has a right hand thread at one end and a left hand thread (2'a) at the other end. Special nuts (1) of square cross section with longitudinal slots (1a) are fixed to the panels (P) by screws (5). The neck (5b) of the screw engages the slot of the nut. The rod has a screw-driver slot at each end to enable it to be rotated. As the rod is rotated, it draws the two nuts together and also the panels to which they are attached. The nuts and rod are enclosed in a square section tube (3) of the same width as the panel (P).
