To achieve this the perforations are convergently tapered in the desired direction of flow. In another arrangement Figs. 4-6 (not shown), perforated walls are located on each side of an underwater pipeline resting on the sea bed, or box-like assemblies having perforated side walls are located around support-blocks on which the pipe is supported at intervals.
