1454211 Automatic control of phase angle AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DELA RECHERCHE 14 Feb 1974 [21 Feb 1973 7 Jan 1974] 6837/74 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] In a polyphase synchronous electric machine having a superconductive field winding 115 rotatable relative to a shaft 114 carrying an auxiliary winding 128 but in which the windings 115 and 128 are kept in synchronism by varying the current in winding 128 in dependence on the power component of the stator current, the angular offset # between the magnetic fields H 115 and H 128 of the windings 115 and 128 is kept within a chosen range, shown hatched in Fig. 5 preferably from 30 degrees to 60 degrees. To achieve this, a field sensor 136 detects any offset between windings 115 and 128 and feeds a control circuit which decreases the current in winding 128 if H 128 leaves the hatched zone, Fig. 5, in the direction of H 115 and increases the current in winding 128 if H 128 leaves the hatched zone in the direction of Hm (the component of H 128 parallel to Ha, the power component of the stator field rector H 111 ).
