摘要
Cellulosic fibres internally impregnated with a resin (I) giving moisture resistance are prepd. by (a) suspending cellulosic fibres in water, (b) increasing pH to swell the fibres, (c) adding (I) with stirring and maceration, (d) decreasing pH so that the fibres contract and (I) polymerises, (e) recovering the fibres and washing to remove resin solids from the surfaces and (f) drying and crosslinking the resin inside the fibres. Claimed impregnated fibre prods. in ribbon form, have no H-bond forming tendency, are =60% insol. in cupro-ethylene diamine and can be processed in paper-making machines to give prods. with improved wick effect (i.e. 0.7-0.9 cm/sec). Fibres have a non-twisted ribbon structure, good absorption properties, soft handle, high bulk and porosity, good resilience when wet or dry, improved rigidity, reduced swelling in water and solubility in normal cellulose solvents and better biodegradability. They may be used for absorbing liqs. filtration etc. in sheet or wad form.
