Propylene! glycol di:alkyl ether! prepn. - by reacting adduct of alcohol and propylene oxide with metallic sodium, reacting with sodium alkoxide and mixing with inorganic acid
Adducts of alcohols wity propylene oxides were reacted with metallic Na, reacted then with Na alkoxides, and mixed with inorganic acids to coagulate and remove the by-produced inorganic salts. In an example, Na cetoxide 8, cetyl alcohol 18.6, and propylene oxide 400 g were polymerised for 16 and 3 hr respectively at 100 and 130 degrees. THe adduct (378 g) obtd. and 5 g Na were reacted for 4 hrs at the 120 degrees in N, and the salt obtd. reacted for 7 hrs at 120 degrees with 51.3 g laurylchloride. The obtd. polypropylene glycol cetyl lauryl ether (200g) contg. uniformly dispersed NaCl was mixed at room temp. dropwise with 5 g of 35% HCl. The coagulation and sepn. of NaCl were very good.
