Beta-Lactam antibiotic combination preparations - contg a 7-tetrazolylacetamido-cephem cpd and penicillin

Antibiotically active pharmaceutical combination prepns. contain (A) a 7-titrazolylacetamide-cephem cpd. of formula (I) (where R1 is an opt. substd. heterocyclic group), e.g. cefazolin, or a salt thereof and (B) a pencillin cpd. of formula (II) (where R2 is an acyl group), e.g. carbenicillin, cloxacillin or dichoxacillin, or a salt thereof. (I) and (II) act synergistically, so that the combination is highly active against pathogenic bacteria (esp. Gram-negative bacteria such as Citrobacter and Proteus) against which (I) or (II) along have little or no activity. Dosage for humans is e.g. ca 2-10g (adults)or ca 20-40 mg/kg (children) per day by injection. For the treatment of borine mastitis, a dosage of ca 200 mg/quarter can be used.
