The nickel or cobalt base alloy is coated with a mixt. contg. 20.60(20-50)% chromium, 6-138-13.5)% aluminium, 0.01-2.0(0.1-1.75)% of a reactive metal (I), the remainder being nickel. Pref. (I) is yttrium and/or lanthanum and/or cerium, esp. yttrium. Used coatings for gas turbine components exposed to max. temp., e.g. rotor or stator blades or combustion chambers. The coating is ductile so no cracks occur at room temp. and very high resistance to thermal shock is obtd. e.g. in the cyclic operation of aircraft engines.
