Agricultural fungicide contains =0.09% of an aryl ketone of formula (I) (R = H, haloalkyl, alkoxy, NO3 or dialkylamino, R1 = H, or halo, R2 = H, halo, carboxyalkyl or carbonylalkyl, R3 = opt. substd. phenyl, benzyl, 1-5C alkyl or 2-5C alkenyl, R4 and R5 are both H or together form another C-C bond, n = 0,1 or 2). Used specifically for inhibition and control of Botrytis cinerea, Spaerotheca fuliginea or Plasmora viticola, or for 'immunising' plants against these fungi. By choice of substits. cpds. with specific activity against a particular species can be provided. In an example PhCO.CH=CH.SPh applied as a 0.3% compsn. gave 60% inhibition of B.cinerea on tomato plants.
