ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:A low insertion loss waveguide bandpass filter, havinga high unloaded Q factor, is achieved using cascaded cavities ofa length which is n times the half guide wavelength, and beingthe third index of a TE mode microwave to be transmitted and atleast larger than one. Volume optimization for high Q performanceis obtained by cascading cylindrical or square cavities of thesame cross-sectional area whereas two different techniques areused to eliminate spurious responses in the stop-band. In thefirst technique, exclusively square or cylindrical cavities ofdifferent cross-sectional areas are cascaded whereas the secondtechnique is based upon an alternate arrangement of square andcylindrical cavities. Also, even order filters as well as oddorder filters having high Q performances are realized.
