EARTH FORMATION SALINITY BYCOMPARISON OF INELASTIC AND CAPTURE GAMMA RAY SPECTRA(D#73,797-F)ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREBackground corrected inelastic neutron scatteringgamma ray counts for selected energy regions of the gammaray spectrum corresponding to calcium and silicon are com-pared with thermal neutron capture gamma ray counts forselected energy regions of the gamma ray spectrum. Thesedata are functionally related to chlorine presence and areused to derive an estimate of the salinity of earth forma-tions. The inelastic scattering and thermal neutroncapture gamma ray data are separated from each other bythe use of a pulse neutron source and time gating techni-ques.-I-
