Conger87 Oak AvenuePark Ridge, New Jersey 07656TITLE:CHEMICALLY EMBOSSED CARPET ANDTHE METHOD OF CARRYING OUT CHEMICALEMBOSSING WHILE PRESERVING TEXTUREABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION:Pile fabrics, which have been prepared from nylon carpetfibers having a textured or embossed surface induced by a chemicalshrinking process for developing the texture of the fabric,involving selectively contacting the surface of certain areas ofthe carpet with a chemical fiber shrinking agent for the nylonfibers and allowing the shrinking action to occur, and, thereafter,removing the shrinking agent from the fibers, the thus treatedareas, thereafter, showing a reduced height of pile to createthe texture of the fabric, are kept soft in the treated areas bysimultaneously incorporating in the shrinking material, or ofthe dye composition used as a combination color and shrinkingmaterial, a protective agent compatible with the fiber andalso one which is not destroyed by the chemical nature of theshrinking or dyeing composition to maintain the shrunk fiberssoft and pliant.-1-
