METHOD OF BURNING-IN LINING IN BOTTOM BLOWN STEELMAKING FURNACE

ABSTRACTThe burn-in of the refractory lining or of the refractorycomponent of a tuyere-containing bottom plug in a bottom-blownoxygen steelmaking converter is effected with the plug in placeby passing oxygen and a gaseous hydrocarbon mixed with controlledamounts of neutral gas through the respective concentric passagesin tuyeres contained in the plug. The described method can beemployed to burn-in a bottom plug installed in a converter to-gether with a newly installed refractory converter lining or toburn in a newly installed bottom plug in an existing converterlining.
