ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThis circuit breaker comprises a plurality of vacuuminterrupters electrically connected in series. The voltagedistribution across the interrupters is controlled by aplurality of capacitive circuits respectively connected acrossthe interrupters. Each of these capacitive circuits comprises:(a) the series combination of a relatively large main capacitorand a resistor connected across its associated interrupter, and(b) means comprising a relatively small auxiliary capacitor forproducing a high frequency oscillatory current through saidassociated interrupter upon spark-over of the interrupter,which oscillatory current produces a natural current zerothrough said associated interrupter and clearance by saidassociated interrupter at said natural current zero well beforesaid associated main capacitor has had time to fully dischargethrough said associated sparked-over interrupter.
