ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThis high voltage circuit breaker comprises a vacuumtype interrupter and a fluid-blast type interrupter elec-trically connected in series and arranged to be openedsubstantially simultaneously so that concurrent arcingoccurs in the two interrupters until about the time anatural current zero is reached. The vacuum interrupteris relied upon the withstand the usual recovery voltageduring the initial period after arcing and the fluid-blastinterrupter to withstand the recovery voltage after thisinitial period. Immediately after the circuit has beeninterrupted by this coaction of the two interrupters, thevacuum interrupter is closed while the fluid blast inter-rupter remains open, thus relieving the vacuum interrupterof continuing voltage appearing across the circuit breaker.
