ARRANGEMENT FOR PREVENTING WOW AND FLUTTER IN MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDERS

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA magnetic tape recorder wherein the magnetic head is rigid-ly secured to two spaced-apart platens of a rigid frame. The platensare rigid with several distancing elements and further carry bear-ings for a capstan shaft and for a pivotable pressure roller whichbiases magnetic tape against the capstan shaft. The rigid frameprevents the magnetic head from vibrating independently of the capstanshaft and/or pressure roller to thus reduce or eliminate wow andflutter by preventing that portion of the tape which engages the headfrom vibrating relative to that tape portion which is pinched betweenthe capstan shaft and the roller.- 1 -
