Process for the preparation of a mixture of 14-oxobicyclo-(10,4,0)-hexadex-1(12)-ene (I) and 14-oxobicyclo-(10,4,0)-hexadec-12-ene (II)

The mixtures are prepared from cyclododecanone with the aid of morpholine and methyl vinyl ketone. The proportion of (I) can be increased by isomerisation and they can be converted into 14-oxobicyclo[10,4,0]hexadecane (III) by hydrogenation. The products prepared in this way are distinguished by a musk-like odour. They can be used as the active component in fragrance (scent) compositions.
