The door seal has an open groove into which is located the sealing edge of the door. The groove is bounded by a flexible membrane (8) and is backed by a profiled foam filling which is linked to the engine vacuum when the door is opened. - This distorts the seal and causes it to grip the door edge. - The engine vacuum is readily available on all vehicles and provides the servo force to ensure an airtight seal. The membrane extends between the arms of a U-shaped member, the lower arm of which has a movable end section.
