The door seal has an open groove into which is located the sealing edge of the door. The groove is bounded by a flexible membrane (8) and is backed by a profiled foam filling which is linked to the engine vacuum when the door is opened. This distorts the seal and causes it to grip the door edge. The engine vacuum is readily available on all vehicles and provides the servo force to ensure an airtight seal. The membrane extends between the arms of a U-shaped member, the lower arm of which has a movable end section.
