The system effects exchange of heat between the intake and exhaust air streams of an air conditioning plant. One set of heat exchangers is placed in the air intake duct and a second set of heat exchangers is placed in the exhaust air duct. Each exchanger of one set is linked by pipes to one exchanger of the other set. Each pair of linking pipes contains a pump and is connected to an expansion vessel. A liquid heat transfer medium is circulated through the exchangers having a higher mass flow rate than the air stream. The use of independent circuits with their own pumps provides a simple form of step control.
