The individual musical symbols can have their pitch, value and time adjusted independently and the input signals can be stored and retrieved or requested as a coherent sequence. The apparatus can contain tonal generators whose vibrations correspond to the tones to be generated and which can be cut in independtly of one another by pitch buttons. The duration of the tones is preset by value buttons and timing circuits. The individual tones can be transmitted consecutively on a sound carrier which is stepped on by degrees. This sound carrier can be a magnetic tape or a magnetic disc.
