1436565 Heat-treatment of chromized steel CHROME ALLOYING CO Ltd 15 Oct 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 50608/73 Heading C7A The tensile properties of a stabilized and chromized steel containing Fe Bal, and impurities, with up to 1À5% each of Si and Mn and optionally 0À5-1À5% Ni are significantly improved by heat-treating at 400-550 C for times of 12 hours to 30 minutes, depending on the temperature. The chromized steel must be in the solution treated condition, and a solution treatment in the range 800-1050 C is used subsequent to chromizing, which may be by pack diffusion, prior to the ageing treatment. The resultant material is suitable for fasteners i.e. nuts, bolts, &c. and the heat-treatment may be carried out either on stock or finished material.
