Hit indicator for competition fencing - has detector unit capable of differentiating between hits made on different materials

The electric hit indicator is for competition fencing, and detects the sideways progress of the force produced during hits. The detector lies alongside the blade shank (27) at the rear of the blade (28) of the sabre (12). There is a switch connected to the detector and controlled by it, producing different output signals depending on the values of separate areas of the lateral force measured. The detectors consist of contacts each with two oscillating weights actuated by accelerations in the direction of closing and these contacts are tuned to varying resonant frequencies in such a way that it is possible to differentiate between hits made on materials of different consistency such as metals and textiles.
