The appliance is for the servicing of stem bearing and propeller shafts in ships. After the connection of propeller hub (71) to stem projection (1), the steam sleeve (2) is displaced into the ship, and the connection between hub and propeller shaft (6) is removed from inside, the latter being also displaced into the ship. The propeller hub and the shaft are connected by tension rings. The hub has a recess (73), facing the projection (1), to accommodate the rear seal (4). The recess is enclosed by a cylindrical hub section (72). The cylinder liner (3), which serves as an internal running surface (31) for the rear seal, is connected to the stem sleeve. The liner and facing the sleeve has a shoulder ring (32), with an external diameter larger than the internal running diameter of the rear seal.
