The scoop wheel excavator has a jib for carrying the scoop wheel. The excavator is used for large scale excavation such as removing earth from brown coal deposits or for economical opencast mining of brown coal. The scoop excavator jib length can be varied by adjustment of the telescopic jib. The excavator travelling base can also rotate the excavator about the vertical axis. The travelling base can have three individual propelling units arranged on the corners of a triangle in plan view.
