The auxiliary or emergency drive enables large roller door to be opened or closed if the motor drive fails. It has a drive unit, esp. manually operated, with a coupling to the main drive shaft. One half of the coupling is fitted with a revolution stop and is coupled to the drive unit by a control curve in such a way that rotation of the drive unit causes this half to be displaced axially until it meets the other half, as it held fast by the stop. Rollers may be used for coupling the drive unit to the control curve, pref. mounted on a pendulum axle fixed to the drive unit. This is automatically coupled for drive unit activation, and then automatically uncoupled.
