The transistor switch has two (or more) transistors turned on and off alternately. The shape of the switching waveform (voltage) is initially approx. rectangular and then passes over into a trapezium shape. This shape is produced by a capacitor in series with two anti-parallel diodes. The advantage of this shape of switching waveform lies in its ensuring that the two transistors pass into their off or on states as quickly as possible and prevents them both being on for an unacceptably long time.
