Coded legend printing mechanism selector device - has electromagnetically operated print rod selectors and overriding guide bar

A printing mechanism is used for applying a coded legend to a character medium, e.g. for letters. It has a number of writing rods corresponding to the total number of code elements mounted alongside one another and axially movable, a corresp. number of electromagnetically operated selector devices, and a selector device guide body. It is designed for simplicity of selection and quite low-energy operation. An electromagnet (36) associated with each selective device (32) places it in the operating position when excited. A positioning device (40) operates on the selector dependent on the guide body (20) position such that all selectors are disengaged with the guide in its rest position and allowed to engage with the guide in the release position.
