The device is for determining the flow rate of exhaust gases from an I.C. engine by measuring the cooling of heated wire anemometer. In a simple version of a development of the anemometer, a probe head has three wires (R1, R21, R22). Different load characteristics are obtained not by having wires of different diameters, but by having all measuring wires of the same diameter and connecting two of them in parallel. The wires are mounted on supports (3, 4, 5) which are electrically insulated from one another and are joined by connecting leads (6) to an electronic evaluating circuit. An alternative probe has a second set of measuring wires mounted orthogonally to the first set.
