Transducer mounting for deformation measurement during tensile test - has fixture which supports four probes and strain gauges pressed against metal test specimen
When testing sheet metal for tensile strength or ductility a small rectangular frame is clamped to the metal. The frame supports four sharp metal probes which are pressed against the surface of the sheet metal. These four probes are arranged to lie at the four corners of a rectangular and are connected by a secondary telescopic frame so that they are free to move relative to each other. Electric resistance strain gauges are bonded to the metal sheet along the sides of the rectangle formed by the probes. In this way the changes in both longitudinal and transverse dimensions of the metal under test can be measured.
