Layer insulation for an electrical component consists of an overlapping strip or thread-shaped insulated material stretched over the surfaces. Insulation is applied mechanically and is of the same grade as regards breakdown and stability as normal insulation. The insulating material covers the interconnected surfaces of the component. The insulating material is stretched geodetically in sections. The strips overlap by approx. half the width. The geodetic line subtend an angle which deviates slightly from a semi-circle. Sections of the strip (4, 5, 6) that do not intersect, cross the equivalent equator at approx. a right angle.
