A turning moment transducer for a gyroscope operates in an axis at right angles to the axis of rotation of the gyroscope, which allows the rotor to be positioned w.r.t that axis at any required angle. The main gyroscope motor, and rotor are mounted in an assembly chassis which has bearings and a torsion bar mounted on an axis at right angles to the main rotor shaft. The whole unit is mounted in an outer chassis. The transducer or actuator allows the rotor assembly to be positioned as required. It consists of an array of permanent magnets of alternating polarity, mounted on the assembly with a corresponding array of coils mounted on the gyroscope outer chassis. The assembly can be positioned by actuating these coils appropriately.
