The wide-band oscillation damper damps out vibrations occurring when machining metal bodies and thus noise generation. It incorporates two or more parallel plate-type damping members (2) secured together by elastic components (6, 7), and secured with their narrow sides positively against the surfaces generating the noise. The members can each comprise two outer layers (3, 4) of sheet steel, and a spring-type middle one (5) of plastic sheet impregnated with iron powder. The elastic components can each be foam rubber blocks (7) fixed to the members, or leaf springs which suction cups fixed to them.
