Drug or diagnostic agent for treating or detecting thyroid function disorders comprises an O-carboxymethyl-thyroxine deriv. (I). (I) may be in D-, L- or DL-form. (I) bond onto proteins via the O-carboxymethyl gp. giving a conjugate which forms antibodies, and can be used in immunoassays (e.g. radioimmunoassays) to differentiate between D- and L-thyroxines. (I) can therefore be used to differentiate between thyroxines present in and added to the body. (I) can also be used therapeutically (orally or parenterally), esp. for treating thyroid hyperfunction.
